What We Believe

"What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us." - A.W. Tozer

Core Beliefs

The following are the core beliefs of Rowland Heights Community Christian Church based on the foundational truths taught in the bible. All of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flows out of these biblical doctrines.

God

There is one God existing eternally in the three persons of the Trinity: the Father, the Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit - they are one in essence and co-equal.

Matthew 28:19; 1 Peter 1:2; 2 Corinthians 13:14

God - The Father

God the Father is the Almighty Creator and Ruler of the universe.

Genesis 1:1, 26-27; Psalm 90:2

Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ is the Son of God.  He is co-equal with the Father and the Holy Spirit.  Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all humankind by dying on a cross.  He rose from the dead after three days, demonstrating His power over sin and death.  He ascended to heaven, and will return again someday to earth to reign forever as King of Kings, and Lord of Lords.

Matthew 1:22-23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5; John 14:10-30; Hebrews 4:14-15; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Romans 1:3-4; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Timothy 6:14-15; Titus 2:13

Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and the Son of God.  He is present in the world, working to convict humankind of sin and their need for Christ.  He lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation.  He provides each Christian with the power for living, understanding spiritual truth, and guidance to do what is right.  He gives every believer spiritual gift(s) when they are saved.  As Christians we should seek to live under His control daily.

2 Corinthians 3:17; John 16:7-13, 14:16-17; Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 2:12, 3:16; Ephesians 1:13; Galatians 5:25; Ephesians 5:18

The Bible

The Bible, both the Old and New Testaments with 66 books, is God's revelation and word to us.  It was written by human authors, inspired by the Holy Spirit and without error in the original writings.  It is the divine and final authority for Christian faith and life.

2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21; 2 Timothy 1:13; Psalm 119:105; Psalm 119:160; Psalm 12:6; Proverbs 30:5

Salvation

Humankind are made in the image of God, but due to the Fall, all are sinners and hence, separated from God.  Salvation is God's free gracious gift to humankind, but we must repent and receive it by faith.  We can never atone for our sin by self-improvement or good works.  Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God's offering of forgiveness can anyone be saved from sin's penalty.  When we turn from our self-ruled life and turn to Jesus in faith, we are saved.  Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into one's life by faith.

Genesis 1:27; Psalm 8:3-6; Isaiah 53:6a; Romans 3:23; Isaiah 59:1-2; Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9; John 14:6; John 1:12; Titus 3:5; Galatians 3:26; Romans 5:1

The Church

The Church is the body of Christ and is commissioned by Christ to evangelize and make disciples of all nations.

Colossians 1:18; Matthew 28:19-20

Marriage,  Gender, & Sexuality

We believe that God created humanity in His own image, male and female he created them. We believe that marriage is the union of one man and one woman, and that sexual intimacy is to occur only in the context of marriage. We believe that any form of sexual immorality or abuse is sinful and offensive to God.
Genesis 1:26-27; Genesis 2:18-25; 1 Corinthians 6:18; 7:2-5; Hebrews 13:4; Matthew 15:18-20; 1 Corinthians 6:9-10
Colossians 1:18; Matthew 28:19-20

Life

We believe that all human life is sacred and created by God in His image. Human life is of inestimable worth in all its dimensions, including pre-born babies, the aged, the physically or mentally challenged, and every other stage or condition from conception through natural death. We are therefore called to defend, protect, and value all human life.
Psalm 139

Final Authority Matters of Belief and Conduct

The statement of faith does not exhaust the extent of our beliefs. The Bible itself, as the inspired and infallible Word of God that speaks with final authority concerning truth, morality, and the proper conduct of humankind, is the final source of all that we believe. For purposes of RHCCC’s faith, doctrine, practice, policy, and discipline, the Elder/Deacon Board is RHCCC’s final interpretive authority on the Bible’s meaning and application.
